What’s happening in the US may seem distant and far-fetched. After all the world is suffering from its own pandemic miseries and each country has its own battles to fight. There are local, much closer issues at hand that seem daunting enough to worry about than things happening so far away.
Wake up!
It seems distant, but it’s not unrelatable. We’ve all seen injustice in our lives. We have all seen others facing it. We have all been mean, and we have also been bullied. We have all felt discriminated against somethings, but we have also treated others unfairly. And all this has stemmed out of our inner bias. The moment we say, “they do this” and “they are like this”, is exactly the moment we create a divide. Segmenting people based on their color, caste, creed, religion, sex has been so ingrained in us that we don’t even realize it anymore.
But we need to stop! We need to consciously suppress our inner demon. It’s high time we realize #BlackLivesMatter is more than just a trending issue. It’s an ongoing struggle, for anyone and everyone who has ever felt like an outcast. And it has to stop with us!
What can you do?
Recognize your inner bias - We are all guilty of our unconscious bias. Accepting it is the first step towards change.
Be empathetic - Acknowledge that people come from varied backgrounds and cultures, and there is ought to be differences. Respect those differences. The best and the most beautiful thing about humanity is that each person is unique in their own way.
Diversify your community – If you have a business, give equal hiring opportunities. Diversity at the workplace opens up to new cultures and value systems and leads to greater social coherence.
Stand up and speak up for injustice. It’s easy to do nothing, to stay in shadows, and wait for the moment to pass. But it takes guts to take a stand, look at injustice and say, that’s not okay and I’m against this!
Let’s heal the world. Make it a better place, for you and for me, and the entire human race. 😇🙏
